Editor’s Note : An Open Letter to Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson

At a time when the balance of power in the United States hangs in delicate tension, Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson has emerged as one of the most principled and courageous voices on the Supreme Court. Her dissents have not merely challenged the majority—they have illuminated the path toward a more faithful interpretation of the Constitution and a more inclusive vision of democracy.

The following open letter is offered in recognition of her intellect, integrity, and moral courage. It is an expression of gratitude to a jurist who reminds us that democracy endures only when those entrusted to safeguard it do so with both wisdom and heart.

Dear Justice Jackson,

I write to express deep gratitude for your courage, intellect, and steadfast defense of our democracy. In your dissents and opinions, you have given voice to constitutional integrity and moral clarity at a time when both are urgently needed.

You follow in the proud tradition of Justice Thurgood Marshall, using dissent not as opposition, but as preservation—a beacon for future generations to understand what justice requires. Your insistence on accountability, restraint, and the enduring meaning of equal protection reminds the nation that democracy must be guarded, not presumed.

Your words reach far beyond the bench; they inspire those who believe in fairness, truth, and the enduring promise of America. May your example continue to guide us toward a more just society, and may history remember your courage as essential to the defense of liberty itself.

With the deepest respect and admiration

Ronald J. Sheehy, Editor / Race Inquiry
